Juno Task
The filming was hard as we could not catch the right shots as we were not allowed further than a certain distance from the school. This was then hard for us as we had to try to get the right shots even though it was difficult to get the right shots which would be accurate for the Juno opening scene. By trying to find the shots we struggled with time and therefore we took longer filming they we were meant to. However by filming for longer and taking our time I feel that we produced an overall higher quality and more accurate footage. The filming I found easy as we took a couple of shots and this allowed us to chose the best ones overall which we felt would fit the footage best.
Our story board was pretty accurate however the drawings were not as good and therefore some of our shots were not properly shown. The timings were not always accurate as the change in the footage of Juno is so quick that it is not always on time. The storyboard though did help us as it gave us an overview of the whole footage and after watching it time and time again the storyboard felt very accurate as we changed it and added bits to help us.
We were in a group of three which meant we had more views and opinions of which shot and area we were taking it in. This however was a weakness as we all had different views and this is what caused our timing to be a little off. However by having a group of three this meant that one person was left out so we kept rotating the camera and made sure that everyone was involved. This made sure that we all got experience in filming for the first time. As a group I thought our shots were very accurate and we all decided that we would repeat the shots so that we could chose the best one instead of doing it once and being wrong.
For filming for the first time it made us more experienced and it made us think about every shot and what we could do differently in order to make it look better. By using Premier again this made me feel more confident in using this and that I felt like I can use it more often.
Compared to the original and the resources we had I felt that it was very close to the original with a couple of shots looking odd when it is next to the original.
I feel like I am more confident using the camera and using Premier. I feel like next time I will be more strict on the time limit given and that I will be quicker as I am more familiar with the resources that are available.

Adobe Premier Pro - Editing
We were given a task of using Adobe Premier. We were given a task of creating a music video that we were given a selection of dancing bear animations that we had to edit and create into a music video. This was our first time using this software and i felt as though it was easy to get the hang of. We were given a free license in sense that we could edit what we wanted to and we can chose our own audio clips. I really enjoyed using this software and i feel comfortable in using this in the future. We also had to create a trailer for a James Bond movie. This was an interesting task as it was also down to us to add our own perception and interpretation of what we thought the trailer would be like. We were allowed to use our imagination with the clips provided in making a short trailer.

Film Language: Analysis
Terminator 2:
The low level lighting shows it to be dark and it shows that it is set in the evening. This is because the night sky is automatically shown when the camera zooms out on the car chase. The close up view onto the characters faces automatically shows there emotions and this gives us an insight in to how the characters are feeling. The blood and cuts on the faces shows that this is an action film. The side on view of the car chase is used by the camera technique if tracker and this shows that the car is moving and ultimately in a chase to escape. This ultimately shows us how fast the cars and moving and that in fact it is a life threatening situation. The worms eye view of the camera shows the explosion of the cans and it shows the rising and how dangerous this stuff is. The constant worms eye view shows this as it freezes the legs of a person trying to walk and this person is ultimately cannot be destroyed however he is frozen.
There was a highlighted contrast between the ice and fire as shown, the red vs. blue as like an attack between the both of them. This showed that both sides were not safe. The policeman who you can usually trust turns out to be the person who you cannot trust and instead of a saviour is the person who is attempting to end lives rather than save them. Arnold is the person who looks the villain with the black outfit which usually shows danger however this time the contrast shows due to his actions and he is in fact the saviour rather than the villain that his costume portrays. The pace slowed which showed us that the action was over and that ultimately this person was destroyed. This is also shown right on time with the music as the pace dies which shows us that the action to had died and that it was over. The music however was very fast which was parallel with the scene as this was an action scene and this immediately was highlighted due to the song's pace immediately hitting the audience with an impact. The dialogue of the women's voice's showed us that they were in fear and were panicking ad there lives were in danger. The emotion in the girl's voice was shown as the sound was very quick as if though she had a short amount of time to live.
Boys in the Hood:
The dialogue off screen immediately makes us what to see what is happening and this questions us to think what has happened. This first section is all off screen with various sounds that gets us wondering what it could be but also it comes across as though we are not supposed to see this as this is bad as the police sirens suggest that this is a serious case and therefore cannot be publicized to us. The dialogue on screen gives us an insight into the scene. The stop sign ultimately tells the audience that this crime must stop and this is emphasised by the camera zooming in to the sign to try and get its point across. That this crime must 'STOP'. The tracker shows the neighbourhood and that this is a run down neighbourhood. The dialogue of the kids highlights there is violence in this neighbourhood, a place with innocent children in that can affect them. The innocence of the children is shown when they are crossing the police line and that the kids are involved.

Love Beats All
Feedback of Powerpoint:
The overall response we got back from our fellow peers was high scores on every aspect with a range of scores around 6-10. The film title was something the audience liked as they found it catchy, mysterious and something that they would like the sound of to go and see. It was relevant to the genre of the film as it immediately stood out as a 'ROM-COM'. Our cast was considered as very interesting however that did question its appropriate to the genre. Everyone was interested and said that they would go and see the film. They said that its very diverse with action as well as ROM-COM. They said our film is suitable for our target audience and it will attract customers. However there was one view which said violence is not suitable for the genre. Our film was said to be unique and very different to other film there has been. There was mixed reviews about our marketing for the film with a wide range of answers to needs more marketing and to good ideas.

Genre Task
We were given a task to use DISTINCT and we had to apply this technique's to 4 different films trailers and how the genre is portrayed throughout the clip. The four films were:
Oculus: This film trailer categorises into the genre of Horror. This film was set in a creepy house which immediately shows us this is a place no one would like to be. It is set in the evening which is a time where you cant see without the use of light and this shows us that this was a place which was dark and mysterious. The immediate change of lighting showed this sense even more as the contrasts shows the fright of what is happening. The small amounts of characters shown gives us an indication that we are not supposed to no the other characters and that the limited amount of characters indicates to us this is a horror as we do not see one characters face. The music gives it a creepy feel and that it is waiting for something bad to happen.
Dan Stevens: This film trailer categorises into the genre of Action/Thriller. This is called a Hybrid genre. This film is set in a battlefield where combat is occurring on a field and along streets. This shows us that immediately action is taking place and that there is some kind of war which is being brought inland. The music is a constant flurry of impact with the music continually being loud and dangerous with no lyrics as a sign of the constant shooting of guns. This genre thriller is shown when a mysterious man shows his mysterious presence with a face that does not change. This shows us that this man is different to everyone else. He also has more focus than any other character which shows he is important.
The Vow: This film trailer categorises into the genre of Romance. This film is set in a light hearted setting of a city than the sun is shining. The music starts off slow and the lighting shows us that the two characters are in love as they look so happy and the camera focuses on them together. This however changes and the music quickens and this lets us know that something bad has happened and the lighting dims showing us that the love has ended. The characters are shown to be separated which also shows the divide in love. There are two main characters which shows us that it is between them which is love.
Guardians of the Galaxy: This film trailer categorises into the genre of Sci-fi/Comedy. This film is a Hybrid genre. The film is set in space with various high tech weapons and machinery is used to show that it is an Sci-fi film. There is constant action shown in the trailer with combat taking place. This film is shown to be a comedy by taking the mick out of someone called 'starlock' who no one has heard of even though he thinks he is famous. Comedy is also shown as there is an upbeat music which does not match the combat scenes which have been shown.

Genre Picture Task
- Comedy
- Romance
- Thriller
- Horror
We tried to show the comedy genre by using the prop and by seeing something that could come across as humorous to the audience and we thought this would be best by showing a head by the toilet. The prop of the wig stood out and its in the middle which shows the wacky hair that immediately signals as Comedy. The angle of the photo shows the head in the toilet which immediately shows this character has ended up somewhere he shouldn't be.
Romantic
We tried to show the romance by showing the connection with the hands and the side by side view that thy are both looking in the same direction. The prop we used help show the male and female love as what the audience could see it was a romantic genre.
Thriller
We showed the thriller by keeping a straight face and it looks like he is up to no good. We tried to show the suitcase to show that the genre thriller is usually about unravelling a mystery so we tried to create a very mysterious feel.
Horror
We turned the lights out and created a flash on the front person to darken out the fact that there was a person behind the front man. We kept the light only on the first person to show the genre of horror that there is someone behind just like in a horror movie. We kept straight faces as to show that this was a serious matter.Thursday, 4 September 2014
Semiotics
Semiotics- is the study of signs anything that can stand for something else. We read images and pictures in an attempt to decode them and make sense of what they mean to us.
Denotation- what we see when we look at an image(what it is)
Connotation- what we understand from the image (what other meaning it has)
Red- blood, hate, fire, danger, love, passion, lust, heat
Blue- water, royal, peace, innocence, purity, sadness
Yellow- light, cowardice, electricity, hope, summer, happiness
Green- calm, land, countryside, nature , greed, young, inexperienced, sickness
The levels of each character shows there important with the women being less importance as she is crouched down below the other two characters. The most important character is shown by his level, by being at the top above the rest to show his authority and power. He is the most important person as he has a crown which related to him possibly being the king or royalty of some place. The next level down shows an almost identical image just without the crown his shows he could be related as the hair and face is identical which shows they could be related. The small blacked out characters at the bottom of the poster shows they are mysterious and dark characters who are all quite similar as they are seen to be at the same level. This could be a selection of bad people who want to hide or attack. The dark wolf's symbolism dark creatures that are dangerous. The black does this as you cannot see what attacks you and this could show that the wolf's are so quick that pass in a black flash which ultimately resembles to danger. The props the characters are holding shows this is an action packed film and that these characters are dangerous and are not afraid to kill. The women shows innocence though as girls are not usually seen to be violent.
